As the presidential campaign season moves into high gear, press organizations are working to train journalists so they know their rights.
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the National Press Photographers Association are providing training sessions at 9:30 a.m. on March 20 at the Wisconsin Newspaper Association annual convention that will provide journalists with a basic understanding of their constitutional rights when covering campaigns and the upcoming political conventions.
The sessions will cover such topics as access to polling places and exit polling, as well as a discussion of journalists’ rights and responsibilities when covering demonstrations that could occur around candidate rallies and upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions which will be held in Milwaukee, WI (July 13-16) and Charlotte, WI (August 24-27), respectively.
These training sessions at the WNA annual convention are presented with the support of the Society of Professional Journalists Foundation.
